Look for Less Celeb Style: Danai Gurira

Every winter wedding I’ve ever seen looked delightfully ethereal and luxurious in photos. In reality, most women dread a winter wedding because it’s hard to know what to wear. When my husband and I were planning our wedding, the date moved around so many times because every family member wanted a vote on what they considered the optimal temperature.

Trying to find something to wear to a formal event held during the cold, snowy season can be a challenge. Warmth is paramount, nixing anything short or made from thinner materials. Still, we want to honor the occasion by looking as elegant and glamorous as possible.

Danai Gurira gives us an idea here, on the red carpet of An Evening in China with WildAid. Gurira looks both simply divine in this high-necked, floor-length, long-sleeved number by Giambattista Valli. A dress like this would be a great way to conceal tights and other thin layers.

This dress would run us upward of $3,500, thanks to the luxury tag. But we can always try to find something that captures the essence of the look. If we can’t emulate, we can always imitate. Here are a few dresses that incorporate some of the elements we love so much about Gurira’s gown — the high neck, the long hemline, the long sleeves, the dark florals — without breaking the bank. Maybe you’ll find something you can rock to your next formal event!
