Fall fashion has always been my favorite. Its fabric textures, the layered looks, the accessories, coats and rich hues are breathtaking. The multitude of fashion shows, television presentations and social media posts can be overwhelming making it difficult to identify the seasonal trends that work for you and what’s affordable. As a celebrity stylist, author and a curvy woman who is in the fabulous fifties collective I’d like to recommend several tried and true guidelines to keep you fashionably focused this fall.

In my book The Art of Dressing Curves, I discuss the importance of knowing your body shape. This enables you to choose effective foundation under-garments and the right wardrobe silhouettes to maximize your best assets with confidence and great style.

Know your style personality

This is important because you want to be you!

● Are you a fashion minimalist who favors wearing all black, clean lines and statement singular jewelry?

● Are you a sophisticate who aspires to elegance, preferring fitted suits, strategic seaming details in the finest fabrics?

● Perhaps you’re a classicist, whose wardrobe is traditional, and you flirt with seasonal colors but not with silhouettes?

● If you’re bohemian, you live in bold colors and intricate prints. You layer interesting fabric textures with jewelry from different cultures.

● And then there’s the maverick. You love seasonal trends, sexy silhouettes and the latest in all things fashion!

Please consider this when shopping: you may be predominantly one style personality, but you may also dabble in others. And lastly, because we are in the fabulous 50+ collective, we must be aware of the environmental climate change and our personal climate change. That means choosing fabrics that breathe and pieces that are easy to layer and un-layer.

This season’s trends

This season’s offerings are extensive, but they are offered at different price points and sizes, and there are looks that will take you from day to night, including nuanced basics and pieces with fun embellishments.

Prices and availability are subject to change.

Denim

Because denim is the fabric of our lifestyles, I’m always happy to see it featured and styled with a new approach. This season’s choices are denim-on-denim, bleached, dark and deconstructed. Denim is an essential fall trend and so much more than a pair of jeans. It’s easy to layer, belt, and wear with prints and other colors. I love the seamed corset denim dress. You can wear it with a cardigan or blazer or layer it with a denim jacket. The strapless two-toned dress can be worn with a turtleneck, bodysuit or a shirt underneath. The balloon-sleeved denim dress can be styled with lux boots or booties. The belted denim kimono with matching trousers can be worn separately or together with a sleek belt. For the ladies who like an edgy approach, the deconstructed jumpsuit is just for you.
