The birds are chirping and the flowers are in bloom. And if seasonal allergies aren’t a hindrance, the breezy springtime invites us to get outside and get our steps in, which we all know can have mood boosting, muscle building and heart healthy benefits.
Spring can also represent a period of spiritual reflection, with both the Jewish observance of Passover and the Christian celebration of Easter in April. Some of us find solace in a religious or spiritual practice, which can provide a roadmap to as the Bible says, “walk by faith, not by sight. Regardless of our faith tradition, keeping that faith when we are troubled by situations that we can’t control or comprehend can be challenging, especially for sisters who thrive on being in boss mode. But letting go and letting God (or a higher power) can help to guide us in a positive and productive direction.
For as long as we've published playlists (and we've done so featuring many genres since issue number one in 2018), Sisters From AARP readers have told us how much they enjoy faith-filled music. We're back with another soul-stirring series of songs for you to enjoy. So girl, put your praise and worship tunes on, and shake off any negative vibes. You know, rousing songs like “Walking” by Mary Mary; “Up Up Up” by Anthony Brown & group therapy; “Gonna Be A Lovely Day” by Kirk Franklin & The Family; “Walking and Talking With Jesus”; and “We Walk By Faith” by John P. Kee & The New Life Community, that deliver a hand-clapping chorus and motivational message.
There are also a few spirited secular but faith walk friendly songs in the high vibration mix, including: “Faith” by Stevie Wonder and Ariana Grande; “Mountains” by Prince; “Step by Step” by Whitney Houston; “Don’t Forget Who You Are” by Common and PJ; and “Keep On Movin’” by Soul II Soul, featuring Caron Wheeler.
Remember the positive sentiments in each song as you take a long walk in the park or do reps on the treadmill, sis. And whatever you do, keep on movin’. Don’t stop.
